Wisdom: The Principal Thing | Friday Night Sermon

Wisdom Is The Principal Thing

Pastor Lonnie brings a message on the wisdom of God during this Friday Night Sermon on May 26th. Knowledge and understanding are meaningless and powerless without wisdom. How do we get God’s wisdom? How do we walk in it? Why is this important? Pastor Lonnie uses verses out of Proverbs 4 and Psalms 1 to explore wisdom, and what it means for us as believers. He doesn’t finish this sermon completely, but here’s some key points:

Get Wisdom. Get Understanding.

Proverbs 4:5 (NKJV) “Get wisdom! Get understanding!
Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth.
Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you;
Love her, and she will keep you.
Wisdom is the principal thing;
Therefore get wisdom.
And in all your getting, get understanding.
Exalt her, and she will promote you;
She will bring you honor, when you embrace her.
She will place on your head an ornament of grace;
A crown of glory she will deliver to you.

10 Hear, my son, and receive my sayings,
And the years of your life will be many.”

Grace will undo any plans against you. Grace will give you unmerited favor, and stepping into the wisdom of God is the first step in a life of God’s grace. The above passage is so rich with the benefits of wisdom. Knowledge and understanding are meaningless and powerless without wisdom.

The Wisdom of God vs the Counsel of Man

Psalms 1:1 (NKJV) Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
    Nor stands in the path of sinners,
    Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;

Wisdom from God is the only type of wisdom that is worth getting. It will never leave you astray or bring you down, but it will lead you to a place of peace, comfort, joy and safety. We are locked in to time and space, which is here and now. We can’t see beyond the now, or further from here. But, God can see the entire picture. From where He sits, He can see what is going to happen. He is a timeless God. We, however, are locked in time, and God wants us to lean on His grace and hear from Him, and know all that He has for us so we can live in complete freedom.

Walking in Wisdom by His Spirit

God has entered into the Sabbath when He completed His work, and He has given us all power and authority here on planet earth, which is why we so desperately need His wisdom and understanding, and the knowledge of Him operating in our life. By walking in these spiritual attributes, with the mind of Christ, we can begin to establish His Kingdom wherever we go. If a church is doing things out of control and manipulation, and threatening you into heaven or hell, get out! God’s grace is greater than man’s condemnation.

Psalms 1:2 (NKJV) But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
    And in His law he meditates day and night.

As believers we don’t vacillate between spirituality and carnality. When Jesus came in, He made our bodies His holy temple. It’s not just about us being in Him, but it includes Him being in us. We need to continue to mediate on God’s word, and spend time with Him, so that when He speaks, we can hear and recognize His voice, the wisdom of God. When we receive the words of life, they become life to those around you.

Psalms 1:3 (NKJV) He shall be like a tree
    Planted by the rivers of water,
    That brings forth its fruit in its season,
    Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.

By drinking the waters of God, His living water, we will never thirst again. Not just drinking, but jumping in, over our heads, into the current of God. Give God complete control over your life. Here’s the full sermon:
